One Less: Organic Raw Honey Facial Cleanser

raw honey

I have been using non-toxic cleaners in my home for many, many years. About a year ago, I set out to use only 100% natural products on my skin, and hair. One product at a time I have moved away from products laden with chemicals and have either found a non-toxic alternative at the grocery store or have made my own products.

One less became my motto.

One less product with a bunch of toxic ingredients that I couldn't even pronounce. One less item in my bathroom. One less beauty product that didn't deliver. I now live with the idea that if I can't eat it then it does not belong on my skin or hair.

This summer I researched alternative facial cleansers that were completely 100% non-toxic. I started using organic, unrefined, raw honey as a scrub and facial cleanser and have not looked back.

What benefits can honey have on your skin?

  • Acne: Honey is naturally antibacterial, so it's great for acne treatment and prevention.
  • Aging: Full of antioxidants, it is great for slowing down aging.
  • Complexion: It is extremely moisturizing and soothing, so it helps create a glow.
  • Pores: Honey is clarifying because it opens up pores making them easy to unclog.

I can honestly say my skin has never looked better. No more trying to figure out which facial cleanser I should use. Seriously, have you seen all the choices in drug stores…ridiculous! When I'm running low I head to my local natural food market, pick up a jar and check it off the list. Easy peasy!

I will tell you that not all honey's are created equal. Most of the honey found in grocery stores is “adulterated honey” meaning it literally has no nutrients.  When honey is processed and refined with heat the live healing enzymes are killed.  You are instead left with liquid sugar.  So make sure to look for unrefined, raw honey. Raw honey will give your skin the healing benefits that it needs and you will also experience the best results.

I did a ton of research on using raw honey as a face wash. Here are a few of my favorites sites that also appear to do their research:

Minamalist Beauty-Great site full of a ton of useful information on natural beauty and wellness.

Bohemian Kate- Another site if you are looking for alternatives to natural skin care and wellness.

There is no shortage of information out there. Just Google "raw honey as facial cleanser" and you are well on your way. :)

I'd love to hear if you use raw honey as a cleanser and what your reaction has been.
